- Written legal opinion on defined questions of Malaysian law

The availability of specific services is subject to conflict checks, the firm's capacity, and the nature of the matter presented. The firm reserves the right to decline instructions in its discretion.
The Content on this Website is provided for general informational purposes. It does not constitute legal advice and does not establish a solicitor-client relationship.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and view this Website for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. This licence does not permit you to reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any Content without the firm's prior written consent.
Nothing in these terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
6. Engagement Terms
Submission of an enquiry through this Website does not constitute the formation of a solicitor-client relationship, nor does it create any obligation on the part of the firm to accept instructions.
A formal engagement is constituted only upon the execution of a written engagement letter setting out the scope, fees, and terms of the relevant matter. Until such a letter is agreed and accepted by both parties, no solicitor-client relationship exists.
The firm conducts conflict-of-interest checks prior to accepting any instructions. Engagement is conditional upon the satisfactory outcome of such checks.
Matters accepted by the firm are handled in accordance with the professional conduct rules of the Bar Council Malaysia and the firm's standard terms of engagement as set out in the relevant engagement letter.
7. Payment
Fees for the firm's services are as described on this Website and as confirmed in the engagement letter for each matter. Where a fee is described as "indicative", the amount applicable to a specific matter will be confirmed in writing prior to the commencement of work.
All fees are quoted and payable in Malaysian Ringgit (RM). Payment terms will be specified in the engagement letter and typically require settlement within 14 days of invoice.
The firm does not accept instructions on a contingency or no-win-no-fee basis unless separately agreed in writing.
Any request for a refund or variation to fees must be raised in writing and will be considered in accordance with the terms of the relevant engagement letter.
8. Disclaimers
The Content on this Website is provided for general informational purposes only. It does not constitute legal advice and should not be relied upon as such. Each legal matter turns on its own particular facts and the applicable law; general information cannot substitute for advice given by a qualified solicitor on the specific facts of a matter.
The firm makes reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of Content on this Website but does not warrant that the Website will be free of errors, continuously available, or free from viruses or other harmful components.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be excluded under Malaysian law, including consumer protection rights under the Consumer Protection Act 1999.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the firm's liability arising from or in connection with the use of this Website (as opposed to a formal engagement) is excluded.
In any formal engagement, the firm's liability is limited as specified in the relevant engagement letter and is subject to the firm's professional indemnity cover, which meets the requirements of the Bar Council Malaysia.
The firm shall not be liable for any indirect, consequential, or incidental loss arising from reliance on the Content of this Website.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Meriwether & Co and its personnel from any claims, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of this Website, your breach of these terms, or any false or misleading information you have provided.
11. Termination
The firm may at its discretion restrict or terminate access to this Website at any time, with or without notice.
In relation to any active engagement, either party may terminate in accordance with the terms set out in the relevant engagement letter. Termination of an engagement does not affect any rights or obligations that have already accrued.
12. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.
Where a dispute arises in connection with a formal engagement, the parties will first endeavour to resolve the matter through direct correspondence. If no resolution is reached within 30 days, the matter may be referred to mediation through an appropriate Malaysian body before being submitted to court proceedings.
Where applicable, the Advocate and Solicitor Act 1947 and the Bar Council's complaint procedures may govern professional conduct matters.
13. General Provisions
- Entire Agreement. These terms, together with any applicable engagement letter, constitute the entire agreement between the firm and the user in relation to the Website and, where applicable, the engagement.
- Severability. If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, the remaining provisions will continue in full force.
- Waiver. A failure or delay by the firm in enforcing any provision shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
- Assignment. You may not assign any rights or obligations arising under these terms without the firm's prior written consent. The firm may assign its rights in connection with any business reorganisation.
- Notices. Any formal notice under these terms must be in writing and delivered by post or email to the addresses specified in the relevant engagement letter or to the contact details on this Website.
